BREITKREUZ SUPPORTS BILL TO PROTECT
CANADA’S FISHING, TRAPPING AND HUNTING HERITAGE

Ottawa – Today, Saskatchewan M.P. Garry Breitkreuz announced, “I have jointly-seconded Member of Parliament Inky Mark’s Private Members Bill C-222, An Act to recognize and protect Canada’s hunting, trapping and fishing heritage. Inky represents the neighbouring constituency of Dauphin-Swan River in Manitoba and is also a founding member of the Outdoors Caucus. His bill is a great first step towards implementing the draft mission statement of our newly formed non-partisan Outdoors Caucus: to entrench in law fishing, hunting, trapping and shooting sports as acceptable, traditional, environmentally-sustainable outdoor heritage activities with a safety credo and a conservation ethic as our highest priorities.

Inky Mark added, “These activities contribute billions to our national economy. It is time to protect hunting, fishing and trapping as a part of our Canadian heritage so that all Canadians can take part in these activities without fear that they will be legislated out of existence.”

“Our first objective is to get Inky’s bill passed by the House of Commons and into Committee where witnesses can be called and amendments considered,” explained Breitkreuz. “When the Outdoors Caucus holds its first meeting later this month, I will be asking all MPs and Senators from all parties to support this pioneering piece of federal legislation in their ridings and in Parliament.” [See link to Bill C-222 below]

Breitkreuz has been amazed at how popular the idea of an Outdoors Caucus has become since the invitations went out to all MPs and Senators just one month ago. “We now have over 60 Parliamentarians representing all political parties, nine provinces and one territory. Together we will continue to build on the conservation legacy of Canada's five million anglers, hunters and trappers; preserve the lifestyle choices of Canada's hunters and anglers; and recognize the importance of wild fish and game for our local economies and as food for our families,” concluded Breitkreuz.
