SUBJECT: GARRY BREITKREUZ MP EARNS PRESTIGIOUS HERITAGE AWARD

Breitkreuz chosen to receive COHA’s Outdoor Heritage Award

Today Bob McQuay, Chairman of the Canadian Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA) Canada’s first and only national organization committed to the protection of our hunting, fishing and trapping heritage, announced he was pleased that Garry Breitreuz, MP Yorkton-Melville, has been chosen for that organization’s first Outdoor Heritage Award in the area of preservation.

The award was presented in Frankford, Ontario on September 12 to Mr. Breitkreuz by Jim Lawrence, COHA’s Manager of Corporate Affairs and Communications at a meeting of hunters and gun owners.

“The board of directors chose Mr. Breitkreuz,” Mr. McQuay said, “for his initiatives that benefit all Canadians by creating the federal Outdoor Caucus and his extensive work on gun control legislation.

“COHA’s mandate to protect our outdoor heritage is based on the principles of education, conservation, and preservation. Every year COHA will make awards to people who have made outstanding contributions in those three areas in protecting our heritage. Mr. Breitkreuz is well respected across Canada for his efforts to preserve our rights.

“Other awards will be announced in the near future to two other Canadians who have also made outstanding efforts for the outdoor community.”

Mr. Breitkreuz was surprised when presented with the plaque. “I will treasure this award,” he said, “I didn’t expect anything like this. My efforts are for all Canadians and this award shows they are appreciated.”

Bob McQuay added that there are many people who are deserving of awards for their efforts to protect our outdoor heritage, noting, that there are also those in government and private life who seem determined to stamp out any vestige of our heritage. “We’ll have to come up with some kind of a presentation for them too,” he concluded.
