Garry Breitkreuz, M.P. says Morgentaler award devalues Order of Canada

Garry Breitkreuz, Member of Parliament for Yorkton-Melville opposes awarding an Order of Canada to abortion doctor Henry Morgentaler.

The M.P.’s condemnation comes in the wake of an announcement that Dr. Morgentaler, who has performed abortions over several decades, will be awarded the Order of Canada by Governor General Michaëlle Jean.
“This is a politically charged decision that should never have been made,” says Breitkreuz. “There are many Canadians who deserve special recognition without resorting to a controversial appointment like this one. This appointment is opposed by millions of Canadians who believe all life is sacrosanct – he should be left to fade into history. This decision completely devalues the Order of Canada.”

Breitkreuz believes many other M.P.s and Senators will agree that the Morgentaler announcement is a mistake.
“This gives the whole nomination process for Orders of Canada a black eye,” he adds. “The advisory council for these awards is either asleep at the switch or blatantly political and callous. Some OC recipients have already given their awards back because the process has been corrupted.”

Breitkreuz encourages citizens who disagree with the appointment to share their opinions with the Governor General by email at Info@gg.ca, or write her postage-free at:
