For Immediate Release

Funding available for projects supporting seniors

(OTTAWA – September 29, 2010) Garry Breitkreuz, M.P. for Yorkton-Melville (SK) is encouraging non-profit organizations that work to improve the lives of seniors to apply for federal funding before October 8, 2010.

Across Canada, the New Horizons for Seniors Program helps ensure that seniors are able to contribute to and enjoy a high quality of life in their communities,” commented Breitkreuz.

Proposals under the Capital Assistance component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program are now being accepted.

“Up to $25,000 in funding is available for each project.  Capital Assistance funding helps non-profit organizations that need to renovate facilities or upgrade equipment that is used for existing seniors’ programs and activities,” said Breitkreuz.  “It allows seniors to continue to lead active lives by participating in existing programs and activities within their communities.”

The Government of Canada continues to recognize the valuable contributions that seniors make to our communities, workplaces and society through the New Horizons for Seniors Program. The mandate of the program is to ensure that the policies, programs and services continue to provide opportunities for seniors to improve their well-being.

“The experience that seniors provide in our communities is invaluable.  Seniors share knowledge, bridge generations and transfer skills.  Funding for the New Horizons for Seniors Program Capital Assistance Program will ensure that Yorkton-Melville’s seniors can continue to participate in their community as they enjoy their golden years,” Breitkreuz concluded.

All applications must be received by October 8, 2010.  For more information, on this program please call Glenda Eimantas at 613.992.4395.
