MP Breitkreuz announces funding for the centennial celebration of Pelly

OTTAWAGarry Breitkreuz, Conservative Member of Parliament for Yorkton-Melville is pleased to announce that the Government of Canada will be providing funding as the community of Pelly celebrates its 100th birthday.

“The money that the federal government has invested will be put towards musical and dance performances, local historical heritage presentations, historical tours, the creation of a mural, commemorative signage, as well as the construction of a commemorative monument,” commented Breitkreuz.

“Our Government is proud to support the Pelly Centennial Committee,” said Breitkreuz. “By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and culture, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.”

The Pelly Centennial Committee has received funding of $17,000 to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding.  Celebrations and events will take place between May 4, 2011 and September 30, 2011

The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
