ON BEHALF OF 9,144 CANADIANS, BREITKREUZ PRESENTED 373 PETITIONS OPPOSED TO BILL C-68

"Surely, the Liberals must know that there are more votes in making a strategic retreat

from Bill C-68 than passing this seriously flawed bill?" asked Breitkreuz.

Ottawa - Today in the House of Commons, Garry Breitkreuz, MP for Yorkton-Melville, presented 373 petitions signed by 9,144 Canadians who are opposed to Bill C-68, the Liberal government's gun control bill. The petitioners were primarily from the Province of Saskatchewan.

The petitioners call upon Parliament to refrain from passing Bill C-68:

(1)They oppose the universal registration of long guns;

(2)They oppose the replacement of the Firearms Acquisition Certificate by a Firearms Possession Certificate;

(3)They oppose the restrictions and controls on the purchase of ammunition;

(4)They oppose the provisions to ban the purchase and use of .25 or .32 calibre handguns and handguns with a barrel length of under 4.14 inches; and finally

(5)They oppose the making of regulations by Orders in Council.

"I am continually amazed at the strength and determination of the opposition to Allan Rock's costly, intrusive, and unworkable gun control bill. The Prime Minister, the Justice Minister, the Cabinet and most of the Liberal Caucus must know by now that they have made a grave error in political judgement. Surely they must know that there are more votes in making a strategic retreat from Bill C-68 than passing this seriously flawed bill?" asked Breitkreuz.
