Apply for Celebrate Canada Funding before January 15th

Are you part of an organization that celebrates any of the following: National Aboriginal Day on June 21, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24, Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27 or Canada Day on July 1? If so, you’ll want to take advantage of the funding our government provides to help with the cost of these events. But don’t delay — you need to apply before January 15, 2014.

Those days of celebration comprise Celebrate Canada, Canada’s annual eleven-day celebration that this year will take place from June 21 to July 1. The events that celebrate these notable days are not only lively and entertaining — they’re a wonderful means of discovering and learning to appreciate Canadian society in a new way. Those who participate almost always leave with an increased sense of pride in being a citizen of our remarkable and diverse country.

If your organization applies for funding, you should know that special consideration is given to those who plan to hold your event on the anniversary of the actual date. Additional consideration is given to projects that embrace themes that commemorate important anniversaries in Canadian history, such as the150th anniversary of the Charlottetown and Québec Conferences in 2014. However, funding isn’t conditional on including those anniversary elements during the Celebrate Canada period.

Organizing bodies have until January 15 to submit applications for the 2014 edition of Celebrate Canada. If your organization could use this funding and wants to apply, please be sure that your application is completed, signed, and mailed by that date. Incomplete applications delay processing and could be rejected.

Celebrate Canada does its best to acknowledge that they have received your signed application form within 15 calendar days. If your application isn’t acknowledged during that period, please contact the Canadian Heritage office in Regina at 306-780-7287.

As in previous years, there are stipulations as to who may apply for funding. You may do so if you are:

  • a not-for-profit organization, corporation, cooperative, unincorporated association, etc.;
  • a business corporation where projects are non-commercial in nature;
  • an educational institution; or
  • a Canadian municipal government and other municipal, provincial or territorial institution.

A visit to www.pch.gc.ca will direct you to “Celebrate Canada” where you’ll find links to more information, a funding application guide and a funding application form. The Celebrate Canada Funding Application Guide provides more information on who can apply for funding, what expenses are eligible, and how to complete and submit the funding application form.

In order to ensure that your funding request is processed in a timely manner, you must follow the steps indicated in the application guide. Note that only one application per applicant for all events (National Aboriginal Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Canadian Multiculturalism Day and Canada Day) will be accepted for the funding cycle.

Please note that funding is not guaranteed to all eligible organizations, and not all successful applications will receive the amount requested.
