CANADA FIREARMS CENTRE RESPONSE DATED MARCH 4, 2004 - FILE: A-2003-0042

The Public Agency Regulations are not yet in full effect, therefore reporting the destruction of firearms is at the discretion of each police department.  The total number of firearms reported and confirmed on our systems as destroyed to date is: 49,447.  We have no report available with a breakdown by class of firearm and reporting police department.  Police departments are responsible for the destruction of firearms seized or turned in to them and the CAFC does not have a report of any associated cost.
