BREITKREUZ ATI REQUEST – November 5, 2002

During the fall of 2002, the Canadian Firearms Centre sent a “FINAL NOTICE ABOUT FIREARM REGISTRATION” on form JUS 1022E(2002/09/16).  Please provide copies of reports showing the total number of envelopes mailed and the total number of envelopes returned as undelivered by the Post Office.  Please include the reasons for being returned (i.e. Unclaimed; No such address; Address incomplete; Moved address unknown; No such Post Office; Refused by Addressee; Deceased; and Unknown).

JUSTICE DEPARTMENT RESPONSE – January 6, 2003

“I must advise you that a search of the records under the control of the Department of Justice has revealed none on this subject.  However, officials from the Firearms Centre related that 616,209 envelopes were mailed out, of which 24,600 were undeliverable by the Post Office.  The return of 24,600 envelopes as undeliverables represents 4% of the 616,209 mailed.  The Firearms Centre tracks the number only and does not track the reasons for these undeliverables.”

RESULTS OF EARLY REGISTRATION INCENTIVE MAILINGS – March 11, 2002

The Canadian Firearms Centre sent out early registration incentive notices to 1,625,915 licenced firearm owners and that 38,629 notices were returned by the Post Office
