FIREARMS FACTS - UPDATE

COST OF PRIVATIZING THE GUN REGISTRY (SO FAR)

$53,365,133

NOTE #1: The following is an excerpt from a 5-page document received by fax on July 18, 2002 from the Department of Justice.

"QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS - WORKING WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR"

"Q.10 - What is the value of this contract and what are the terms?"

"A - The contract was awarded to the CGI Group Inc. and Business Data Services Limited (BDP) in the amount of $35.7 million (GST included).  While it is expected that this will lead to a longer-term arrangement, the Government of Canada has opted to provide funding for only a 9-month interim position contract.  During this time, the provider will build the business and IT solution that would take the program beyond the implementation phase.  Should this business solution meet all standards, then the contract allows for a 15-year arrangement for the delivery of administrative services related to the program such as call centre operations and application and payment processing."

NOTE #2: Garry Breitkreuz's most recent news release on privatization of the gun registry documents previous contracts valued at $17,665,133 awarded to BDP Business Data Services Limited.  Click here for more details:
