Please provide copies of records and reports that show the number of firearms in the Canadian Firearms Registry that have been registered in the system without a serial number.

 

 

RCMP RESPONSE - JUNE 17, 2002:

 

This is further to your request under the Access to Information Act received on May 16, 2002, with regard to copies of records and reports that show the number of firearms in the CFR that have been registered in the system without a serial number.

 

Further to your conversation with Cpl Piquette of this office on May 30, 2002, enclosed please find a copy of all the information to which you are entitled.

 

EXCERPT FROM COPY OF ATTACHED E-MAIL:  As of May 27, 2002.  In the RWRS [Restricted Weapons Registration System] we have 14,996 firearms registered with a NIL serial number.  In the CFRS [Canadian Firearms Registration System] we have 703,418 firearms that were registered without a serial number, even though they had been assigned a FIN [Firearm Identification Number] & sticker in place of the serial number.
